ARTER – Istanbul’s most exciting contemporary art space? …

ARTER is a privately run exhibition space for contemporary art in Istanbul. It opened in May this year with an exhibition titled Starter that showed works from the Vehbi Koç Foundation Contemporary Art Collection. Their second exhibition, called Second Exhibition, which opened last weekend, is in fact the first exhibition organised by them that is realised independently from the Vehbi Koç Collection, with new works by Turkish contemporary artists. This concept will, from the present exhibition onwards, be their “Leitmotiv’ for the future – which makes this forum so exciting. They are providing artists with the support and the platform that is needed to grow, develop and present their art to the public. On the one hand there is a rapid growth of contemporary art in Turkey , on the other hand, however, there is still not enough publicly funded, independent support for the artists. ARTER gives artists the support to produce works and exhibit them in a curated museum space environment to a national and international audience.
